We believe in God, the Creator of the world, the author of life, and the sustaining presence of all creation. Therefore, we regard the created world as God’s gift to be cherished and protected. We are called to uphold the integrity of the earth’s climate and the welfare of the environment.
We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, who embodied the life of God in the flesh. To understand what God’s love is like, we look to Jesus. His life is the Way of life which we strive to follow. In Christ’s death and resurrection, God’s redeeming and sacrificial love overcame the power of sin and death, offering reconciliation between humanity and God. Therefore, we are called to the work of reconciliation in our lives, in the church, and in the world.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who carries the active presence and power of God in our lives and in the world. The Holy Spirit creates, sustains, and empowers the Church to live and serve as the Body of Christ. Therefore, we seek the Spirit’s inspiration to live as the presence of Jesus Christ in the world.
We believe that every person is created in the image of God. Therefore, we affirm the dignity of every person, including those who are marginalized by society. We welcome and accept those of all sexual orientations. We seek to accompany all those deprived of life-giving necessities such as food, housing, and health care.
We believe that the life of the world ultimately is in God’s hands. God’s purpose is for justice to flourish for all, and for peace to reign. The people of God are called to join in the work of God. Therefore, we seek to live as Christ’s faithful disciples in compassionate service and courageous witness to God’s redeeming love for the world.
We believe that faith in Jesus Christ, through the gift of God’s grace, has the power to save, heal, and transform our lives, and all who encounter him. Therefore, we seek to nurture that faith in our worship together, in the sacraments of communion and baptism, and in our sharing, support, and fellowship with one another as sisters and brothers in Christ.
We believe that the nature of God is love, and this love seeks to dwell in every person, and to flow as a river of grace through all the creation. Therefore, our hope rests in the healing and redeeming power of this love to make all things new.
As part of the Lutheran tradition, and belonging to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we adhere to the beliefs of historic Christianity, expressed in the Apostle’s Creed and the Nicene Creed. The Protestant Reformation further clarified the understanding of Christian faith. We seek to hold these beliefs not as abstract ideas but as living convictions which shape our personal lives and our life together as a community of God’s people.
